Size: 4K Date: 7/28/92 Version:
Description:
950 Color - 950 Color Addition is a system software extension that fixes a
minor problem on Macintosh Quadra 950 computers. This extension does
nothing on other Macintosh computers. The problem addressed only manifests
itself under certain conditions. When a color monitor is connected to the
on-board video circuitry and the Monitors control panel is set to millions
of colors, certain color manipulation commands may not work in some
graphics application programs. The problem is not destructive. Your
machine will not crash and data will not be corrupted. Installing the 950
Color Addition corrects the problem.

Name = ALIASMAKER.CPT
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:ALIASMAKER.CPT
Size: 9K Date:11/16/91 Version:
Description:
This little program will make an alias of every application on its
startup disk and put all of them in a new folder entitled "AliasMaker
Aliases". It will also give you the option to discard all existing
application aliases of type 'adrp' except those in your Apple Menu Items
and Startup Items folders. This will make it handy to launch all appl-
ications from just one folder instead of having to open a bunch of windows
while in the Finder. SYSTEM 7 DEPENDENT .. obviously. Enjoy!
Name = ALIASZOO 1.4.CPT
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:ALIASZOO 1.4.CPT
Size: 61K Date: 7/22/92 Version: 1.4
Description:
ALIASZOO 1.4 - AliasZoo 1.4 is a major re-write of version 1.2.5. Now it
locates all alias files on a selected volume, shows you clearly which ones
no longer point to their owners, allows you to select aliases to delete or
to re-connect to new owners. Now you can select multiple aliases and
re-connect them all at once. Also includes a new feature that allows you
to double-click on an alias file and see the location of it's owner.
All functions have been re-written for speed (the delete function is
dramatically faster). Requires System 7.
Name = ARA Server.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:ARA Server.cpt
Size: 15K Date: 7/28/92 Version:
Description:
ARA Server - One of the most exciting new capabilities to come along in
quite some time is Apple Computer's AppleTalk Remote Access, or ARA. It
allows you to create a connection between a remote computer and a local
area network. We like ARA at UserLand, in fact we use it to bridge
computers here all the time. It works. Then we heard that Apple was
offering an API for ARA -- we couldn't resist creating a small "applet" to
bridge ARA to Frontier script writing. As a result, your scripts can now
operate over a phone line! This is going to be very interesting. Using ARA
Server and Frontier, you can automatically initiate an ARA connection,
manage it, and terminate the connection.

Name = Airport QuickStart.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:Airport QuickStart.cpt
Size: 9K Date:10/27/92 Version: 1.02
Description:
Airport QuickStart - Airport Quickstart is an extension which allows
faster starting of a powerbook at those airport security gates when the
agents wants to be sure you're carrying a computer, and not a bomb.
Enclosed is edition 1.0.2 of Airport QuickStart. It now loads a lot sooner
(maybe a few seconds so) and no longer exhibits the incompatibility with
Now Startup. It is no longer a cdev but is an extension instead, which is
fine because the cdev never worked anyway (there's nothing to configure in
this extension...you simply hold down the 'Q' key at startup to make it
work).
Name = ALERT.CPT
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:ALERT.CPT

Name = AliasBOSS2.0.2.cpt

Size: 64K Date:11/06/92 Version: 2.0.2
Description:
AliasBOSS2.0.2 - The AliasBOSS now allows you to scan for any type of file
you choose, whether it is an alias or not. You can then save aliases of
files which met your criteria en masse or selectively. You can scan for
aliases created by a specific program or all aliases on a particular volume
and check their validity. If an alias is invalid, that is, has lost its
owner file, you have the option to repair (re-associate) the alias with a
similar file (or a different file altogether). Please see the online help
to learn how these functions can be performed.

Name = Alias Finder.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:Alias Finder.cpt
Size: 7K Date:12/12/91 Version:
Description:
A small application that finds alias creators with one step. Alias Finder
was written to provide a simple way to find the file that an alias file
refers to. It performs this in the most natural way possible: it asks the
System 7 Finder to show the file. It does this by sending an Apple Event
to the Finder which was specifically created to do this. To have Alias
Finder find an original file, merely drop the alias file on to Alias Finder
within the Finder. Alias Finder will run and then exit, and the Finder
will open thefolder where the original file is and select that file. Alias
Finder can also find folders and volumes. Fast and Effective. Essential for
System 7 users.
Name = AliasNewDownloads 0.2.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:AliasNewDownloads 0.2.cpt
Size: 3K Date: 3/22/92 Version: .2
Description:
This script, when first run, will create two variables in your people.ME
named ANDSource and ANDDest. You can guess their meaning. You will be asked
to show AND the folder which will act as the source and where the aliases
should be saved. When run, it will alias all files in the source except the
invisible "Icon" file, if any. All aliases will be prefixed with the
current month and date plus one space.

Name = AlphaSound.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:AlphaSound.cpt
Size: 25K Date:10/26/92 Version:
Description:
AlphaSound.cpt - The purpose of AlphaSound is one that has traditionally
been done by “INITs”—it plays a sound when you start up your Mac.
AlphaSound requires the new Sound Manager and the new File Manager in
System 7. Since it is not an application in the traditional sense, you will
find it hard to launch under previous systems, yet, even if you do manage
to do so, AlphaSound will politely check its operating environment and
silently quit. AlphaSound plays the sound asynchronously—that is, the sound
plays while your Macintosh computer continues to do other tasks.
Name = Apollo 0.8b3.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:Apollo 0.8b3.cpt
Size:125K Date: 5/27/92 Version: .8b3
Description:
Apollo 0.8b3 - Version 0.8b3 fixes several bugs in v0.8b2, including one
that caused SEs to crash if Apollo was loaded. Apollo is an application
launcher, a program which lets you launch other programs. You select an
application from its pop-up menu and Apollo starts that application just as
if you had double-clicked its icon in the Finder. Apollo will also let you
attach documents to an application in its menu. Unlike other launchers,
Apollo also lets you put desk accessories, control panels and folders in
its menus if you're running system 7. Another extra feature is the group
selection.

Name = AppDisk1.6.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:AppDisk1.6.cpt
Size: 26K Date: 9/24/92 Version: 1.6
Description:
AppDisk1.6 - AppDisk is a ramdisk. What is a ramdisk? Its a piece of
software that lets you use some extra RAM memory as a really fast hard
disk. The disk will appear on your desktop just like any other hard disk,
and you can copy files to it just like normal. The only difference between
a ramdisk and a normal disk is that when you turn the power off to your
Mac, or restart, the contents of the ramdisk are lost. This is one reason
AppDisk has several options to automatically save a copy of the ramdisk
contents onto your hard disk. The difference between AppDisk and most other
ramdisk programs is that the AppDisk gets the memory for its disk from its
application memory.
Name = AppleEase 1.4.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:AppleEase 1.4.cpt
Size: 12K Date: 7/28/92 Version: 1.4

7's AppleMenu much easer. If you drag an application or document onto the
AppleEaseIn Icon (I keep mine on the desktop next to the trash) an Alias of
the file will Appear in the Apple Menu. AppleEaseOut is an INIT (Er, thats
Extension in Apple's newspeak) so in order to use it you must load it into
the Extensions folder (inside the system folder) and restart. With
AppleEaseOut installed you can select an item from the AppleMenu with the
<option> key pressed and it will be removed from the AppleMenu out to the
Desktop.

points to the original item and places it in the Apple Menu Items folder

Name = Applicon 2.2.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:Applicon 2.2.cpt
Size: 48K Date: 7/28/92 Version: 2.2
Description:
Applicon 2.2 - Applicon puts up a "tile" (a small square window) for each
application you have running under System 7. The tile representing an
application displays the application's icon and name. If you click a tile,
the corresponding application will come to the front. Option-clicking hides
the previous application as the new application comes forward. If
Applicon's tiles are all hidden behind other windows, moving the mouse to a
"hot spot" in a corner of the main screen will bring them forward. There's
just one thing: it ONLY runs under System 7.0 (or later).
Name = Ashtray.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 Tools:A:Ashtray.cpt
Size: 6K Date: 9/06/91 Version:
Description:
Ashtray is a system extension (INIT) which converts text into PigLatin. In
its current implementation, you have to hold the option-key down to get the
feature to work. Missing Features: The current version does not use the
International Utilities routine "FindWord" to determine what is a word, and
what is not. Known Bugs: There is still an initial debugger break (NOP it
out). It does not handle anything but the 1st word correctly. Single letter
words are not converted to keep from conflicting with menu key equivalents.

I have a 2MB Macintosh that is sometimes the only one I have around to
develop with. MPW just doesn’t cut it with only 700k (which is all it gets
with 7.0). Bully gets me what I need by killing Finder and using its space.
With my setup, this can get me as much as 1.2MB. I built Bully with MPW
Pascal on my 2MB machine while running System 7. To use Bully Quit
everything you can or want to quit. Drop one application or document on
Bully. Limitations Bully does not open the document you dropped, but it
does find it’s application and get it launched for you.

Description:
When Apple first introduced System 7 at the 1989 Developer's Conference, it
included something called the 'New Print Architecture'. One of the really
cool parts of the NPA were 'Desktop Printers'. This allowed you to have an
icon on your desktop which represented a particular printer. You could then
drag a document onto the particular printer icon, and it would print to
that printer. Very useful when you have multiple Laserwriters, a Fax
Modem, Print to Disk utility, etc. Well, the NPA disappeared, and with it
'Desktop Printers'....In order to correct this MAJOR oversight, I wrote
DTPrinter which implements 'Desktop Printers' NOW under System 7.

FinderEdit - FinderEdit is one of the most useful system 7 utility
applications I've ever come across. The author is Dan Weisman whom I've
tried to get-a-hold through his internet address and failed. I took the
liberty to modify it slightly to create an Icl8. The docs. give information
on where to send the shareware contribution. FinderEdit allows the user to
modify file mappings, change the font string, change alias styles, change
information under the "get info" box, and add "Quit" commands to the
finder. Obviously when it's in use it shuts off the finder so I don't
recommend running any other applications in the background while FinderEdit
is active.

Description:
Moniker 2.0 - This is an update (probably the only one I'll make) to
Moniker, the drop-and-drag alias making program. The first version did not
allow one to make aliases of disks or folders, the new version corrects
that flaw. I also recoded this program to be 100% System 7 saavy. This
includes the addition of Apple Events to the program. The source code is in
THINK C format (a compiled version is included for non-programmers). This
program and its accompanying code allow you to create alias files in a far
superior method to that supported by System 7's Finder. The source code is
in THINK C 5.0 format.

this (or rename your hard disk if you're boring). MountAlias will create
alias files in one of three ways, specified by the three “Alias Name” radio
buttons.

same folder, the finder will not change the document's icon until you close
and reopen the folder it resides in. TEXT<->ttro is "whatever-you-want
-ware". If you'd like to send a buck or two, I'll take the kids for ice
cream. If not, well, I hope you like it anyway.

Description:
ToggleAT - is an FKEY for the Macintosh PowerBook. The intent of this FKEY
isto be able to avoid going to the Chooser to turn off AppleTalk every time
you take your PowerBook on the road since this requires a menu item, a
button click, an “Are you sure” dialog, an OK dialog and a close box.
Turning it back on requires a menu item, a button click, an OK dialog and a
close box. This is almost more trouble than it is worth. So, I wanted an
FKEY that allowed me to blast AppleTalk off with a single key combo and hit
the road. This is the ToggleAT FKEY. It comes as resource ID 12, which is
only useful if you use a macro program like QuicKeys to trigger it. If you
want to use it without such, you will need to renumber it.

Name = TrashAlias 1.1.1.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:TrashAlias 1.1.1.cpt
Size: 15K Date: 4/09/92 Version: 1.1.1
Description:
TrashAlias 1.1.1 - is a freeware Control Panel for System 7. In System 7,
users can create multiple desktop icons to represent a single document,
application, or folder. One represents the actual original, but the others,
called aliases, just point to it. This feature, for example, allows a user
to keep an application located within one folder, but be able launch it by
double-clicking on its alias from another location, such as the desktop.
The alias is actually a separate file created and maintained by the Finder.
However, if a user deletes the original file, the alias file still remains.
TrashAlias remedies this problem by automatically deleting any alias files
associated with a file (or folder) when it is deleted.

Name = VMTuner.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:U-Z:VMTuner.cpt
Size: 83K Date:10/14/92 Version:
Description:
VMTuner - System 7 offers you the ability to 'extend' the available memory
by pretending your Macintosh has more RAM than it actually has installed.
Instead, the Mac uses a file on disk to store portions of the RAM it
currently doesn't need in order to make room for another portion it needs
to use now. This way of extending memory is called virtual memory (VM), and
it happens transparently for the applications, except for one thing: speed.
The so-called swapping of portions of RAM from and to the disk causes your
computer to slow down considerably. The larger you set the virtual memory
size, the slower your Mac will get.

Name = Zing.cpt
Path = AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:U-Z:Zing.cpt
Size: 23K Date: 7/28/92 Version:
Description:
Zing - Zing is a small “chat” application that uses system 7 AppleEvents
for its communication. Ping doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but
it runs in only 30K of memory; small enough to make it possible to run as
startup item for most macs. The problem with most larger talk applications
is that they’re too large to run, so noone bothers, so you can’t talk after
all.
